About:
An etching and aquatint print with watercolor additions, inspired by the Dresden Botanical Garden. Artist’s copy.
Works from the Gardens series stem from the artist’s travels to European botanical and urban gardens. By getting to know them from behind the scenes – through conversations with their curators, researchers, and staff, as well as a close observation of their inner workings – Gorol gathers material that serves as a starting point for further creative endeavors. However, these plant observations, sketches, and research conducted during her travels are not meant to document reality. Instead, they become material for building autonomous, multi-layered worlds where elements drawn from nature undergo transformations, merge, and forge new relationships.
Modesta Gorol is a Wroclaw-based visual artist whose works combine traditional graphic techniques with poetic, dreamlike narration and experimental elements.
