During the opening, as well as on Saturday, 25 July (during gallery opening hours), selected works will be presented in VR (courtesy of VALL Gallery), allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the artist’s imagined worlds.

Anemochory is the botanical term for the dispersal of seeds by the wind. In Modesta Gorol’s artistic practice, the concept becomes a point of departure for reflecting on the movement of images, memories, and experiences that—like seeds—travel to new places, take root, and assume unexpected forms.

The works presented in the exhibition stem from the artist’s journeys through European botanical and urban gardens. By exploring these places behind the scenes—through conversations with their curators, researchers, and staff, as well as through close observation of how they function—Gorol gathers material that becomes the foundation for her artistic process. Her botanical studies, sketches, and research are not intended as documentary records. Instead, they provide the basis for constructing autonomous, multilayered worlds in which elements drawn from nature are transformed, intertwined, and reconfigured into new relationships.

The medium itself plays a crucial role in this process. Gorol works with traditional printmaking techniques, particularly etching and aquatint, treating them not as the final stage of a work but as the beginning of further exploration. Many of her prints undergo painterly interventions, giving each work an individual character and placing it at the intersection of printmaking and painting. Like the gardens that inspire them, the works remain in a constant state of transformation, resisting fixed classification.

Alongside the prints, the exhibition also features oil paintings in which the artist’s characteristic motifs—fantastical landscapes, their imagined inhabitants, and fictional environments—reappear in new forms. Works inspired by music, the artist’s second creative discipline alongside the visual arts, also occupy an important place within the exhibition. Together, the works create a network of connections between image, sound, memory, and space. Selected pieces will additionally be presented as immersive VR experiences, inviting visitors to step inside the worlds created by the artist.

In Anemochory, connections and transitions take on particular significance: between observation and imagination, printmaking and painting, image and space, sound and visual form. The exhibition’s title thus becomes more than a reference to a natural phenomenon—it offers a way of thinking about art as a space of constant exchange and transformation.

Modesta Gorol (b. 1994) is a visual artist working primarily in the field of printmaking. She employs techniques such as etching, aquatint, and mezzotint, combining them with painting, watercolour, sound, and VR technologies. She graduated from the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław and the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. Her artistic practice develops a distinctive visual language in which botanical motifs, biological forms, and fantastical landscapes intertwine with narrative, creating multilayered, often dreamlike worlds. She has participated in exhibitions and artistic projects in Poland and abroad, including in Tokyo, Dresden, Bilbao, Knoxville, and Lviv. In 2024, she completed an artistic residency at Grafikwerkstatt Dresden, and her debut received an Honourable Mention at the 12th Polish Printmaking Triennial in Katowice. She lives and works in Wrocław.
